The anticipation about The Game Awards has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio warned that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team could be crafting a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible by choosing a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, enabling players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
The Journey Continues
It is these creative systems that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, players can anticipate a new entry in this legendary franchise.
